The Story of Lindsay Lohan & Paris Hilton’s Feud

If you grew up in the early 2000s, you’re accustomed to the onslaught of celebrity feuds that defined this era of pop culture history.

One of the most memorable disputes occurred between Hollywood “It” girls Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. Known for their excessive partying and crazy antics, both Hilton and Lohan were frequently featured on the front page of tabloids across the world. The two starlets were seemingly inseparable for a good portion of the noughties until their friendship swiftly descended into an ugly feud before pivoting back to friendship and then diving back into the drama pool again.

Trying to keep track of whether they were fighting or making up was an impossible task. The rift between Lohan and Hilton originated in 2006, when Lohan started dating Hilton’s ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos. Around the same time, a video emerged of Hilton talking to Brandon Davis, the son of an oil tycoon, as Davis said several disparaging things about Lohan without Hilton interjecting on her friend’s behalf. Thus began one of the most tumultuous celebrity squabbles in recent history.

Lohan and Hilton were battling some intense demons in the early 2000s. Both women partied heavily, were known for their problematic drug habits, and were frequently seen drinking and driving together. It seems as though these two were magically friends one day thanks to the sudden flurry of paparazzi attention surrounding their newly discovered bond.

The first recorded date on their friendship timeline is often penned as May 17, 2006, the night of the infamous Hilton-Davis conversation where Davis said some pretty rough things about Lohan, so it’s hard to imagine a time where they actually got along

Perhaps the most confusing aspect of their feud is how frequently they would return to their friendly antics as if nothing had happened. One night they would be fighting at some hip Hollywood club and the next night they would be photographed in a car together with fellow celeb Britney Spears. Hilton herself referred to the group as “The Holy Trinity” after the paparazzi snaps were released, a moniker that has stuck around as long as her party girl reputation.

Through all of this, Lohan and Hilton would cycle through various stages of fighting and reconciliation, bringing a whole new meaning to the term frenemy.

Throughout the 2000s, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton would feed information to paparazzi about one another, then immediately deny what was said when pressed about it during their next public appearance.

When Lohan was confronted about a NSFW comment she made about Hilton mere moments before, she adamantly denied saying it and insisted, “I never said that. I love Paris. Paris is my friend.”

Paris started to look like a bully. A video went viral wherein Paris Hilton was seen audibly laughing as her friend, Brandon Davis, went on to insult Lindsay Lohan to the paparazzi. As reported by E!, Davis said, “I think she’s worth about $7 million, which means she’s really poor. It’s disgusting. She lives in a motel.”

He even body-shamed the Hollywood actress, branding her a “fire cr*tch” and rhetorically asked, “Who would want to f–k her?” while Hilton laughed beside him as she holds a phone to her ear. While Hilton’s publicist defended her, Davis later issued a public apology.

Brandon Davis said to Page Six, “What started out as a joke got completely carried away, I am horrified at the words that came out of my mouth.” Lindsay Lohan spoke about the video for the first time months later the apology. Talking to ELLE U.S., Lohan fired back at Paris Hilton, shaming her for her infamous s*x tape, saying, “Obviously, she’s very comfortable making videos.”

The actress claimed Davis and Hilton prank called her afterward and said the socialite also pulled her aside at a club after she had called Niarchos. Lohan insisted she wasn’t in a love triangle with the exes. “I would never fight with a girl over a guy,” she said. “It’s bad karma.”

Their on-and-off friendship went on for years. It involved a lot of name-callings and denying the accusations between Lindsay and Paris Hilton. Their feud was widely publicized and went on for nearly 20 years. It was only in 2021 that both buried their hatchet and patched things up.

The socialite appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen and said, “I just feel like we’re grown-ups now. I just got married. She just got engaged. We’re not in high school. I think it was just very immature and now everything is all good.”

“I saw that she got engaged when I was on my honeymoon, and I just said congratulations,” Paris Hilton explained of how they got back in touch.
