With Brit Brit taking a post-tour breather and Paris prepping for the pokey and Lohan going to jail the City of Angels needed its other resident party girls to step up to the plate and they were more than happy to take a swing!
Following a wild EuroTrip, brimmed with drunken nip-slips and pot smoking on Roberto Cavalli’s yacht, Mischa Barton was living her best post-O.C. life.
With May 2007 marking a year since the teen queen’s tragic TV demise, Barton was finally gearing up to ditch her Coop days and storm the silver screen I guess she could’ve learned a thing or two from Shannen Doherty.
After touching back down in Los Angeles, the aspiring movie starlet reportedly stricken with bronchitis from her international travels – wasted no time in returning to the Tinseltown nightlife.
Between reuniting with rehabbed sister Hania, and making Starbucks runs with BFF Nicole Richie, Keds’ top spokesgirl was back on her grind, and helping her pal plan a party to beat the band.
After stocking up on some BBQ necessities that Sunday afternoon, paparazzi followed the party girls to Beverly Hill’s Summit Gated Community, home to Nicole’s father Lionel Richie, occasional party pal Britney, and longtime friend Masha Gordon whose Crest Court pad would be the setting for the afternoon’s big blowout.
While cameras couldn’t pry further than the neighborhood gates, what happened inside the bash would soon find its way to gossip sites.
Shortly after nightfall, Perez Hilton posted a not-so-blind-item about a mystery actress who created a drug-fueled fuss at the afternoon’s get together.
Not long after Hilton’s blog post, TMZ named names.
The website reported that the former TV starlet was rushed to the ER due to an “adverse reaction to medication” she’d been taking for bronchitis. The site went on to claim that Coop tossed back a few too many cocktails, and the drugs in her system reacted accordingly.
While a rep for Barton shut down rumors their client had been abusing drugs – namely mushrooms, as previously suggested by Perez sources inside the party told In Touch that Mischa gave her troubled O.C. character a run for its money.
The tabloid’s insider claimed that Coop had spent over half an hour in the bathroom during Sunday’s festivities, and it didn’t take long for the effects of her ladies room activities to kick in: “She was rolling around on the ground, and then suddenly she began screaming that she was dying.”
Life imitates art, it seems.
The magazine went on to allege that Coop had arrived at Sherman Oaks Hospital disheveled, drenched in vomit, and barely clothed – where she was later met by momager Nuala Quinn and father Paul Marsden Barton.
A source told New York Daily News that when Mischa’s parents caught wind of the news, they rushed to her side – only to walk in on her making a frantic phone call to ex-boyfriend Cisco Adler
The newspaper claimed that when Papa Barton burst into hospital room, he came across his daughter deliriously crying, “Cisco, Cisco,” into the receiver – and he flew into a fatherly rage, barking at the staff for letting Mischa use the phone.
That’s probably pretty close to what happened, minus Sandy’s fabulous eyebrows.
Meanwhile, host Nicole Richie was apparently MIA for the entire meltdown, as she was busy stocking up on some last minute party favors at Ralph’s.
Nicole told Ryan Seacrest in a radio interview on May 30th that she’d missed the Mischa crisis – and a brief cameo from a pre-promises Lindsay Lohan as she was loading up on SunnyD.
Richie also fired back at criticisms leveled against her controversial party invite, which had leaked to tabloids days earlier: “It’s a private e-mail to my friends. I was joking and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.”
And Nicole also shut down rumors that she’d recently been in treatment for an eating disorder, simply attributing her minimal paparazzi presence as of late to touring the world with Good Charlotte, but just because she wasn’t holed up at Beau Monde doesn’t mean Richie didn’t have a little trouble of her own. After her party from hell, Nicole hopped across town to her Simple Life costar’s own Memorial Day/going-to-jail gathering, but ran into some car trouble en route:
While at a gas station on the corner of La Cienega and Holloway, the two timer DUIer smashed her boyfriend’s silver BMW into a woman’s Honda convertible, but instead of fighting, the fender bender ladies hugged it out and called it a holiday.

In 2014, the Australian reality star dished on her Hollywood years in an interview, with one tale in particular raising a few eyebrows.
Monk, who’d dated Benji Madden throughout 2007, and frequently hung out with brother Joel’s girlfriend Ms.Richie, claimed that during a daytime bash she’d attended around that time she witnessed a celebrity OD firsthand.

Sophie went on to describe a scene eerily similar to the tabloid reports that had surfaced around Mischa’s hospitalization, claiming an “actress” at a certain drug-filled soiree began convulsing, sending fellow partygoers scrambling and leaving Monk to run a shower for the barely-clothed starlet, who began to foam at the mouth.
The story’s details, down to the actress’ furious mother, seemingly confirmed the truth about what happened that holiday weekend, but despite Monk saving Mischa’s life by calling for help, the actress wasn’t too grateful – supposedly asking friends the next day: “Who was that bitch that called the ambulance?”
And as for the girl who started it all, after being discharged from the ER that holiday weekend, Mischa quickly fled Tinseltown for Moscow, where the troubled actress found momentary solace in an exciting new project… a coming-of-age drama about t.A.T.u.

It’s just another week in 2007.
Then in December that year the former O.C. star was pulled over after she was seen weaving between lanes.
The former star of The O.C., 21, was pulled over at 2:46 a.m. after her vehicle was seen straddling two lanes of traffic and she failed to signal when making a turn, according to an L.A. County Sheriff Department statement released Thursday. She was arrested for DUI and driving without a valid license.
“During Ms. Barton’s detention, it was determined that she was an unlicensed driver and was driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage,” according to police. “Ms. Barton was arrested and transported to West Hollywood Sheriff’s station where the booking process was completed without incident.” The investigation is ongoing.
Shortly after 10 a.m., a West Hollywood deputy told PEOPLE: “Ms. Barton has been released from sheriff’s custody after she posted $10,000 bail.”
Initially, police also said she’d been arrested for possession of illegal narcotics, but no more details were available.
